They Howled And Now They’re Gone

I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving, hysterical, naked, …

Force fed a pablum of dogmatic lies,

Their spirits were clipped and gilded through compulsory schooling and government sanctioned media.

Like a character in an Ayn Rand novel, they were shoved into the collective “we” -

Lashed for the indiscretion of possessing original thoughts

They suffered the chastisements and verbal assaults of those who worship the we.

Yet, they could not be broken.

Instead, they Walk among a herd of obedient cattle.

The cattle no longer need a herder or even a prod.

They herd themselves.

“Whom should we hate today?” they ask their masters.

“What do you want us to believe?”

And they continue to graze in their sunny pastures and keep the trouble-makers in line.

Still, the trouble-makers make noise, unable to fall back into the meandering crowd.

Some decided to teach among the herds, desperate to wake the little ones;

But the forces that weave the collective illusion sensed a disturbance in the carefully constructed dream

and drove them out.

They are telling their stories here and here.
