A Voice Howls Out

I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving, hysterical, naked,
locked away, forgotten and abused
in rubber rooms.
I saw their souls searching through overcrowded halls and disinterested stares
struggling to make promises reality.
Secretly knowing.
Reality has been forgotten long ago and the remnants of
truth have been kept sequestered
in the poorly edited pages of yet another test.

I saw the best minds of the future destroyed by madness, starving, hysterical, naked,
and herded into educational prisons
of nods and chants.
I watched their souls crumble under the pressure of corporate vampirism,
systematic servitude, and temporary fixes.
Never learning.
Reality has been replaced by rewritten histories, vernacular
expressions and the celebrated mediocrity
of No Child Left Behind.

But somewhere a voice howls out,
begging for a collective attack
and with every reply
comes hope.

“Learners Inherit the Earth” who believes that the only way to fight is to force people to think.
